Contributing Authors
Hey there! My name is William O’Reilly and I’m a 36-year-old Australian land-based fishing enthusiast. I’ve been hooked on fishing ever since I was a kid, going out on the water with my grandpa and learning the ropes from him. But it wasn’t until I got older that I discovered my true passion: land-based fishing.
There’s something so exhilarating about casting a line from the shore and feeling that tug on the other end. It’s a totally different experience from boat fishing. Plus, you don’t need a boat to do it, which makes it more accessible to everyone.
I’ve had some pretty memorable experiences fishing from the shore. There was the time I caught a big barramundi from a river bank in Northern Territory. Or the afternoon I spent casting for salmon on a remote beach in Tasmania. But honestly, it’s not just about the big catches for me. I love being out there in nature, enjoying the scenery and feeling the ocean breeze on my face.
And it’s not just me who feels this way about land-based fishing. I believe that it’s a great way for people of all ages and skill levels to connect with nature and appreciate the beauty of our coastlines. Plus, it’s a sustainable form of fishing, which is something that I feel really strongly about.
So, if you’re an avid fisherman or just someone who’s curious about the sport, I highly recommend giving land-based fishing a try. You might just be surprised by how much you love it!
Growing up in Queensland, Australia, I had a passion for fishing from a young age. My earliest memories of fishing involve going with Dad to the beach and catching baitfish, as well as taking trips to nearby rivers and creeks for fresh water fishing.
At the age of 14, I began helping out my dad at his tackle store which instilled in me a deep knowledge of all the gear and tackle related to land-based fishing. I was able to experience a hands-on approach to understanding not only the equipment but also different techniques for successful fishing.
My passion for fishing has only grown since then, and eventually, I decided to pursue it as a career. Leading me to become a contributing author for LandBasedAnglers.com, where I write about my experiences on the water and share tips and advice on fishing tactics and tackle.
Now, at 51-years old, I am still as passionate about land-based fishing as ever. I continue to share my stories and experiences in the hopes of inspiring others to take up this wonderful pastime of mine.
I am proud to have a career that allows me to share my love for land-based fishing with the world and I look forward to many more years of exploring, learning, and sharing.
Thanks for taking the time to read a little bit about me and my life. Until next time, tight lines!
